COVID-19 EXECUTIVE ORDERS

Davao City – Pet lovers will find a permanent resting place for their beloved animal friends after a pet cemetery was opened earlier this week in Barangay Tagdaliao, Samal Island.

The idea was to bring in Japanese nationals into the Davao Region, with the attraction of a pet cemetery as an added draw.

Junichi Takatsu, chief executive director of the Japan Davao Friendship Association, said Japanese nationals and Filipino citizens have set up the one-hectare facility for deceased cremated pets.

The Samal Island Heavy Valley Corporation manages the facility, located around 30 minutes by ferry from this city.

The pet cemetery offers lots, which cost around R15,000 each, that will allow pet owners from Japan, as well as the Philippines, to have a permanent area where they could celebrate the memory of their beloved pets.

Processing for the pet cemetery took four years, as the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) had not yet encountered any kind of application that involved a pet cemetery.

“I believe this is the first permanent cemetery for pets in the Davao region,” Takatsu told The Manila Bulletin.

The pet cemetery will accept any kind of pet, as long as their remains have already been cremated.

These pets include dogs, cats, snakes, rabbits, lizards, among others.

For the first few lots, the owners of the pet cemetery will be offering discounted rates of up to 50 percent.
