SAMAL NEWS | Speaking on his state of the city address, Samal City Mayor Al David T. Uy delivers the city’s progress and development during the conduct of 79th Regular Session of the 8th City Council held at New SP Session Hall on Friday, March 5, 2021.
On his message in regards to the COVID-19 response of the Island, Mayor Uy highlighted the City’s success in creating a digitized Contact Tracing System Strategy that is the first in Davao del Norte. Through the establishment of Information of Tourists and Residents Against COVID-19 In Samal (iTRACS), the city was able to contain the spread of COVID-19 as it monitors the entry and movement of individuals within the Island using this contact tracing system. This is also alongside the collective efforts of the local government in securing the safety and food of its constituents during the height of this pandemic.
“This is the reason why Samal was able to contain the spread of COVID-19, paspas ang atoang contact tracing,” Mayor Uy commended.
Aside from the COVID-19 response, Mayor Uy also recognized the City’s efforts in preventing the further spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the mainland and providing assistance to affected farmers in four (4) barangays in Talicud Island.
With the lifting of the General Community Quarantine on the first of March after months of temporary closure, Mayor Uy also cited the reopening of tourism activities in the Island which includes beach accommodations, scuba diving and other water activities with limited capacity still imposed prior to the resumption of the operations.
He also tackled the projects and programs implemented to secure the different sectors of the community which includes aspects from the economic, agricultural, environmental, infrastructure, local security, tourism and many more.
Moreover, he also highlighted the LGU’s success in bagging the 3rd Place in Resiliency Component Cities in the regional level and reaching the 53rd place out of 115 LGUs in the country, vowing to continue the undying service for the benefit of the public.
Mayor Uy expresses his gratitude to the national and provincial government, medical front liners and private organizations for the help and service extended during the height of pandemic. He added that through unity and cooperation, challenges brought by the pandemic will soon be overcome, making Samal Island a resilient and livable island garden city.
