SAMAL NEWS | Despite the scare of COVID-19, three (3) couples successfully tied the knot while wearing face masks on a civil mass wedding held last Friday, January 29, 2021 at the IGaCoS Tennis Court, Brgy. Peñaplata, IGaCoS.
Officiated by Mayor Al David Uy, the civil wedding was held for couples who were living together for at least five (5) years. The city government sponsors the mass wedding with the aim of establishing a strong foundation of family in the community by uniting live-in partnerships in marriage for free, which would also help them in processing the needs for legitimizing their children.
In addition, Mayor Uy also gave them Php 1,000 worth of cash for each pair of newlyweds as gifts for their wedding.
“Dako kog pasalamat sa atong lokal na panggamhanan labi na kay Mayor Uy nga nakasal na jud mi,” said Raquel Yaun, one of the newly wedded persons.
The wedding was facilitated by the City Mayor’s Office (CMO), City Civil Registrar and students from Samal Island City College (SICC). Implementation of COVID-19 health and safety protocols was also observed prior to the conduct of the event. (CIO/Shiela Saang/Photos by Christian Juntong)
